Hermetecism refers to a broad category of philosophical and spiritual beliefs based on the teachings of Hermes Trismegistos, a syncretic deity combining aspects of the Greek Hermes with the Egyptian god of magic and writing, Thoth.
The Hermetic umbrella embraces a number of diverse streams, all of which share a basic philosophical basis- that man can know himself, and in doing so, become united with the divine. |
